Our Heart’s on Fire for Marissa Hart

Marissa Hart, one of Boston’s movers and shakers in the fashion scene, is no stranger to an on-the-go lifestyle. Between her job as a retail merchandiser for the luxury diamond company Hearts on Fire, involvement with Boston Fashion Week AND Fashion Group International, and with an amazing network of friends and colleagues, this is one busy lady! Her Social Media is brimming with FABULOUS photos of her escapades, travels and events, which leaves you wondering how she stays calm, cool and collected with such a stacked lifestyle!

And, in the midst of it all, she’s super fashion-forward with a sweet spot for accessories, which began after college, working for the costume jewelry-buying department at Filenes’ Corporate offices.

Accessories are an important staple to any girl on-the-go, and this jet-setter is no exception. She believes that jewelry is important because it can transform an outfit by dressing it up or down. “Accessories are such an easy way to show off your mood and personality.  They can really brighten up your outfit or add drama.  I love to pair hoops with my Indian bangles, or style a plunging neckline with a big chunky necklace.  You can control where YOU want people to focus their eyes, for instance I only wear rings if my nails are done.”

Because of her job, Marissa travels frequently and has to be ready for anything—planes, clients, meetings, important dinners, merchandising industry trade-show booths—and when she packs has to account for all of this! “When I travel for work I always pack black clothing- it’s universal, looks professional and serves as a great backdrop for my diamond jewelry!  Unlike most, I dress down for dinner on the road so I pack things like jeans with a comfy top, scarves, and wooden bangles, which always do the trick.”

Wicked Peacock first worked with Marissa on a fashion show that she produced with 6one7 Productions at the Gypsy Bar in Boston—no small feat, we might add! We luv Marissa for her determination, work ethic, calm, sweet and humble personality, and also respect what she’s doing to help put Boston fashion on the map! She sees big things on the horizon in the Boston fashion scene. In her words, “Boston is bursting with talent so the possibilities are endless!  We’ve got it all here – Fashion & accessories designers, models, stylists, photographers, hair & makeup, boutiques, and fashion magazines.  I hope that people start to realize how accessible it all is and start buying local, that goes for food & fashion!”

Between her travels, we caught up with Marissa to get the skinny on her AMAZINGNESS.

WP: Tell us about your work with Boston Fashion Week.

Marissa: Jay Calderin founded Boston Fashion Week in 1995, and I was fortunate enough to have him as a teacher when I was a fashion student at Lasell College a few years later.  For years I volunteered back stage at fashion shows, (walked the runway a few times), and many times just sat in the audience and watched.  Two years ago they started the TENT at Boston Fashion Week and I assisted back stage, feeding off the organized chaos.  It is an amazing thing to see an entire community come together for one week!  Last year I was offered the job of Event Coordinator for the TENT and had the privilege of working closely with each designer.  It was challenging working a full time job, traveling, and assisting with BFW, but I managed my time wisely and had a ball in the process!

WP: How do you choose which accessories to wear out?

MH: The accessories I choose depend on my outfit and my outfit depends on my mood.  Sometimes I am feeling dark & edgy, light & bright, or glitzy & glamorous!  You’ve got to mix it up so you don’t get bored with your outfits, and jewelry is just the way to do it! There is something exciting about pairing a designer skirt with a cheap top, HOF diamond studs with an inexpensive costume jewelry necklace!  It’s all in the way you “merchandise” it together to reflect your personality.

WP: What’s your favorite piece of jewelry on Wicked Peacock?

MH: My favorite piece is my FIRST piece that I obtained after producing my first fashion show last year featuring Wicked Peacock jewelry–a gift from Wicked Peacock founder, Silvana Costa.  Surprisingly it is one of the most delicate necklaces that I own, a copper colored chain with a simple dangling heart and shell.  Although I do love my most recent purchase, a black & white bold geometric necklace (available soon). And I also have the amazing Turquoise Wrap necklace, that I purchased at a recent trunk show.
